What's New for 2017

We're a little late to the party, but January was just a big unpleasant blur for us all anyway...

So, did you miss us? Because we missed you.

As you can probably tell from the lack of updates in the past little while, life got a bit in the way. Yours truly was busy baking another bun in her oven, among other things, although I'm happy to say that the second addition to our clan is here and happy and thriving after a rough nine months of no energy and one problem after the next. He's totally perfect in every way and his big brother adores him.

I may still be shaking off the mom-brain that has kept me less than motivated to write, but I have a dream, damn it. I dream of a better metal website, one that includes all the purest forms of art we have and the people who struggle to give you that art at whatever the cost to themselves; a cost that seems to prove more dear in this tense global climate where we now find ourselves wherein the rich get richer, the talented are marginalized and where love and tolerance are getting harder to find.

The general scariness of the world right now was another reason for my delay in keeping up this little corner of the interwebs. After all, art and entertainment can seem so trivial when we're faced with the threat of world war or environmental devastation. But in the spirit of Winston Churchill who famously quipped in response to someone proposing to cut funding for the arts, "Well then, what are we fighting for?" - I will press on in doing the things I love and working to support what so many of us love... metal, music, art, theater and film.

And maybe, just maybe, helping make the world a better place at the same time.

Now that all of that nonsense is out of the way, let me fill you in on some of the improvements, additions and upgrades we've got planned for this year here at MM.

First and foremost, I'd like to introduce to you our newest contributor...

Meet Cliff! He's a NYC native, freelance blogger and an avid fan of both sports and music. He'll be bringing a fresh perspective (since you can never have too many of those) and we're looking forward to having him aboard. Hail and welcome!

Secondly, we are going to be launching a few live feeds from select shows large and small throughout the year. Make sure you've liked the Metal Maiden Facebook page and follow us on Twitter for updates and notifications on new content and when we'll be going live.

Thirdly... the calendar. Yes, I know, it's way behind. But it's being worked on. As always, submissions with info about upcoming shows are always welcome and encouraged and will be added as soon as humanly possible. There's only one of me maintaining most of the website, mind you, and with two kiddos running around, multiple projects and an ever-increasing list of things to do, sometimes it gets tricky.

The great news is that we're not only back, we're growing. So, who knows? We might become the BuzzFeed of metal blogs one day.

At the very least, we'll be able to do some good things for artists, musicians, and everybody else out there. We'll strive to keep bringing you honest reviews, interesting metal news, entertaining articles and a comprehensive show schedule. In a world of pay-to-play, rampant hate, discrimination, exclusion, and "fake news", we'll stick on the side of integrity, community, love and support. We're here to help, to give back, to make you laugh a little, so if we can accomplish that at least a few times then our existence means something and we'll keep it coming.

Here's to you, metal people of the world. Thanks for sticking with us - we really, truly love you all. Hope you enjoy what we've got planned!

Stay safe out there and be good to each other. These are crazy times.
