Metal Acts at Festivals in 2017

Although 2017 festival schedules aren't fully set yet, particularly in Europe, many of those in the United States are. More than a handful of metal acts will figure prominently in these musical celebration, vying heavily for fans' concert dollars. Following are some of the most prominent metal acts who will be on the festival circuit during the coming year.

Following the success of their seven-week North American tour last year with Anthrax and Death Angel, Slayer is hitting the festival circuit hard this year with half of its announced dates encompassing festivals. First up are two dates in South America at the Maximus Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina in May 6th and then a week later at the Maximus Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil on May 13th. From there, the band heads to Europe for dates at Download Festival, Hellfest Open Air and Tons of Rock. Slayer finishes with three Midwestern Festival dates in July at Rock Fest, Rock USA and Chicago Open Air Festival.

Avenged Sevenfold

Avenged Sevenfold has announced only two summer dates so far, but boy are they big ones. The first is at Rock Fest, July 12th, in Cadott, WI, at the Chippewa Valley Festival Grounds. The second is just one night later as as the band will headline the first night of Rock USA in Oshkosh, WI. Fans can take advantage of seeing a number of other metal heavyweights at both festivals, including Anthrax, Megadeth, Hellyeah and Lamb of God, all of whom will appear at both festivals.

Ozzy Osbourne

Perennial metal favorite Ozzy Osbourne also appears to have only limited appearances slated for 2017, but they are also notable. The first is at Rock USA where he will headline the second night of Rock USA on July 14th. Ozzy's next appearance will be two days later at the second annual Chicago Open Air Festival when he will headline the third night on July 16th. KISS and Korn will headline the first and second nights respectively. The Chicago event will also see a number of other metal acts playing at one or both of the Wisconsin festivals.

Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie also appears to have made festival appearances a priority this summer, beginning with the same dates that Slayer will play at the Maximus Festival in Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. Zombie will also head over to Europe to play dates at Hellfest in Clisson, France on June 16th and Tons of Rock Festival in Halden, Norway on June 22nd.

Five Finger Death Punch

Perhaps the band with the most festival dates is Five Finger Death Punch. The Las Vegas, NV-based band will play no less than 15 festival dates, all of them overseas, beginning with the Sao Paolo date of the Maximus Festival. Other notable European festivals on the band's schedule, include Rock am Ring in Nurburg, Germany, Rock in Park in Nuremberg, Germany, Nova Rock in Austria, Hellfest and several Download Festival locations.
