Shadow Woods Metal Fest RETURNS! All You Need to Know About the Best Open Air Metal Fest in the Region

Get ready, metal heads... Shadow Woods Metal Fest is making a triumphant return this year, September 15 - 18!

Last year was the inaugural run of the festival, hosted by Metallomusikum's Mary Spiro. It was an incredible success, shattering expectations. Everyone in attendance, myself included, had an utterly indescribable weekend of metal camaraderie, mind-blowing music and beautiful, perfectly-suited surroundings. It was one of those experiences you'd remember and enjoy for years after it was over.

It was so widely loved that Mary set out to bring it back, and so she has done with great skill and speed. This year is shaping up to be every bit as magickal as the first, and you'll not want to miss your chance to experience it for yourself. Only 400 tickets will be sold, preserving the intimate feel that endeared the festival to so many.

One can only hope that this will become an annual tradition in the years that follow, and I have no doubt that its pull will be felt farther and farther as time progresses.

Here is everything we know about SWMF thus far.

Tickets:

The standard tickets for attendees are available now for $130 - well below what most festivals of this nature would charge you to attend. I guarantee you, the price is a bargain. They go on sale March 4th at noon. Bring a tent to camp for free, however there are cabins with beds that you may use for a small fee. Market Place Vendors tickets are $175. Food Vendors tickets are $400. The event is 21+.

Volunteering:

Per the event page on Facebook:

DO YOU NEED VOLUNTEERS? Yes, we do. Volunteers earn $10 credit for each volunteer hour worked (up to four hours). This means, all people who would like to volunteer still need to have a ticket. But you can get a rebate on your ticket or use your credit toward Shadow Woods Festival merch. Volunteer sign up coming soon!

Additional Information:

As of this writing, the festival is still BYOB... essentially just like any other camp scenario. Bring basics like water, booze, snacks and such. Food vendors will be present but it's always a good idea to bring munchies and drinkables when you camp and get the urge to indulge at, say, 3am or something.

However, it is possible that they will obtain a liquor license to serve alcohol on the grounds. If that happens then the only alcohol you're permitted to bring is liquor, beer and wine would then be prohibited. I'll update you on any changes here.

Keep checking back here or on the SWMF official FB page for band announcements and updates.
