Oh, it was successful alright - in just one day, more than $12k has been raised to create their new masterpiece already ($12,688 as of this writing with 114 backers).
Slated for release on September 25th, the album was conceptualized at the 2013 Baltimore Comic-Con according to the project page:
"At the 2013 Baltimore Comic-Con we approached comic book publisher Valiant Entertainment with a crazy idea: a heavy metal album about SHADOWMAN. And when we say "approached", we mean we literally walked up to their booth with no warning, put a copy of our latest album in their hands and said "we're Valiant fans, and we'd like to make some music about your character!" And so "Tales from the Deadside" was born. The story of Shadowman, his alter-ego Jack Boniface, and the many characters in his world inspired us to create what we believe is our best album to date. We let the story lead us to places our music has never been before, combining all the elements of supernatural horror, drama, action and adventure found in the comics. Of course everything has gone through our own unique Thunderous filter, and all the familiar ASOT elements will be there. The Shadowman's harrowing journey demanded no less!
We kept this exciting news under wraps through 2013 and 2014 as we recorded the album in secret. The entire album was written in a blur of excitement and inspiration. The recording process on the other hand began immediately following the recording of our last album and was the longest and most grueling of any album we've made. If you haven't seen much of us in the past year, or noticed an unhealthy uptick in our coffee consumption, now you know why! "Tales from the Deadside" was created with the total dedication of the entire band and with absolutely no corners cut.
After 18 months of excitement and hard work, we are incredibly proud to finally bring you "Tales from the Deadside"! Recording of the album and all Kickstarter bonus tracks is completely finished, including mixing and mastering."
All backers will be receiving the advance track "Tower of Souls" along with all other Kickstarter-exclusive tracks immediately upon the campaign's conclusion. Vinyl albums, picture discs, posters and patches were ordered well in advance and are already in stock, to eliminate the possibility of delays. CDs, t-shirts and other rewards will be ordered immediately following the end of the campaign, once we collect your survey responses (for t-shirts sizes, names to print on CD packaging, etc.). Funds from this campaign will be used to manufacture CDs, t-shirts and other rewards.
This is one Kickstarter that won't leave you high and dry. They have some pretty sick rewards and are known for throwing in a random surprise or two, so it's definitely a campaign to follow. Especially considering the amount of attention and support the band has already garnered for their efforts!
If you love classic metal, prog, power, or just some damn fine well-executed metal, I highly suggest you check out what ASoT is about and consider putting in your bid now for what's sure to be another great album from these talented folks.
