Ten Things That You'll Experience At A Metal Show

You know, I hear those "listicle" things are quite popular nowadays. Figured I'd better jump on the bandwagon quick before the wheels fall off.

If you've never been to a metal show before and are curious about what really goes on inside the doors of a local show or even a bigger (but not, like, Ozzy big) national tour stop, this one's for you. Even once the mystery is gone, you'll still want to eye our calendar like a hawk and get yourself to one of these things ASAP - I promise.

If you're already familiar, maybe you'll get a few positive flashbacks or even a chuckle out of some of these.

1. The line is never that long.

No tickets 'til the day of the show? NO PROBLEM!

2. The ticket prices/cover charges are always reasonable.

You had gotten so used to paying fifty bucks for nosebleed seats, it's almost as though you're getting a free show.

3. The atmosphere is always super casual, and it feels like everyone knows/likes each other.

Don't you wanna go where everybody knows your name?

4. Most venues will have a full-service bar at the ready to get you relaxed and ready for metals.

Beer! Wine! Liquor! SANGRIA!!

5. There's usually a small-to-moderate size gaggle of guys/girls permanently fixed to the curb outside the joint.

You never have to worry about going to have a cig by yourself - you're still in good company, even on the front stoop!

6. There's usually (at least) one band that ends up having sound problems or takes forever to set up.

Nobody really minds, though. They know that maybe we'd all have better equipment if we charged the same rate that Beyonce charges us to watch her lip-synch.

7. Once the metal starts, though - you're entranced.

They could be awesome, they could be terrible... but their hearts are in it, and you can't pull your eyes away.

8. When you're hit by a magic riff, all you wanna do is raise your horns and get lost in it.

Go ahead, start a pit! Windmill! Fuckin' RAGE!

9. If a pit opens up, you instantly either jump in or step back.

Just jump in there! The unspoken pit rules require that everyone stop and help you up if you fall, so there's nothing to fear aside from possible loss of whatever's in your pocket and/or your glasses (if you're a nerd like me and wear them 24/7).

10. You leave sweaty, tired and with a bangover - but you had an amazing time!

It doesn't matter how soon the next show is. It can't come soon enough!
