A short while ago, Baltimore-based brutal death metal group Visceral Disgorge announced that one of their original members, Steve Rosenzweig, was found dead on this morning.
No other details are available at this time. The band made the following statement on their bandmate's passing.
"It is with the deepest regret that I have to inform everyone in this manner. VISCERAL DISGORGE guitarist/key composer/original member Steve Rosenzweig was found dead this mourning. We are not at liberty to discuss any details regarding his untimely death. I will try to post information on his viewing/funeral for those of you that knew Steve. This news came to a shock to all of us in the band and to his friends in the Baltimore death metal community. The remaining members are getting together tonight to mourn his passing and to discuss if we should carry on as a band. You will be missed greatly brother."
Visceral Disgorge was formed in 2010. Within months of the release of their debut album, Ingesting Putridity, they built up a strong local, national, and international following. Fans around the world fell in love with their unequaled expression of Baltimore brutality.
Decibel Magazine, MetalSucks, Metal Injection, Sick Drummer Mag and many other blogs and publications have all sung praises of the project. Now it seems the future of Visceral Disgorge may be in jeopardy if the surviving members choose to disband.
None of us could blame them, of course, if that is the path they take. I hope whatever the case turns out to be that they find peace within themselves and strength to overcome the initial stages of grief and mourning.
Another metal warrior has fallen. Though he lives on in his works, contributions and all he left behind, that does not lessen the pain for those closest to him. May they see and remember that metal communities everywhere are mourning with them, and if we know how to do anything, it's taking care of our own that proves our collective strength time and again.
RIP Steve. See you in Valhalla and may the gods guide you safely home.
