Now HERE Are Some Good Fucking Cello/Strings Metal Covers

APOCALYPTICA - one of many supremely talented metal bands on strings

Metal Injection posted an article today (and has posted many in recent weeks) about a great cello cover by Break of Reality of Tool's "Lateralus".

You're in the right direction, MI... even though they've literally been out for years getting no recognition for their awesomeness ("they" being the many incredible bands and groups that do amazing metal covers as well as breathtakingly beautiful and intense original songs), glad you're just getting into the world of metal on strings.

Take, for instance, my first example. The greatest metal string quartet that ever graced the earth - Apocalyptica. Here below is a live version of their cover of Sepultura's "Refuse/Resist":

THAT, my friend, is a fucking metal cover done right.

Don't get me wrong, Break of Reality is a great band and their Tool cover was well done, but Apocalyptica one will really get your heart pounding.

If you liked the slower-paced, more poignant metal covers on strings, then they've got you covered there as well. Here's Apocalyptica's amazingly lovely cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters".

Light and pretty not your thing? Not to worry, they've got something for extreme metal enthusiasts as well:

See what I mean? And that's just the tip of the iceberg - there is a whole world of covered and original metal material on these glorious instruments done many different ways by different bands. Of all, however, I'd have to say Apocalyptica is my favorite in both regards.

Here is an example of an original metal masterpiece by them in collaboration with Dave Lombardo of Slayer entitled "2010":

If that did not blow your fucking mind, then you may possibly be lacking a soul. Prepare yourself before you listen to the entire album or you may find yourself overwhelmed with the intensity that it brings.

Apocalyptica has been out for over ten years, so I'm surprised as to why they have never gotten a mention in Metal Injection's "awesome cello metal covers" posts. They should be getting regular coverage regardless after putting out music of this quality. Then again, they may have only recently discovered that cellos can be metal, too. Whatever the reason, it certainly can't be because they aren't metal - they are 100% metal, through and through.

Perhaps a more sinister evil (like money) is a force at work in preventing them from getting the recognition over in North America that they deserve, with the only time I can remember hearing them mentioned was on the radio when they collaborated with that guy from Three Days Grace (which was not one of their better songs, yet for some reason, it was the most popular over here). I guarantee you, had Americans' first impression been literally any other song off that album, they would be huge over here right now. Perhaps their time is yet to come. For now my hopes of them ever coming to tour here are dampened as the rest of my silly home country fails to recognize their brilliance.

Anyway, sorry to rant there. Just wanted to bring to attention the realy really good metal bands made up of pure strings (and sometimes drums). There's many out there (as well as one who's exceptionally inventive and incredible). Just open a Pandora or Spotify station for songs sounding similiar to Apocalyptica or Break of Reality, sit back, and be taken out of your droll existence into another foreign world where bliss abounds and feel-inducing ethereal sounds fill every space and corner.
